Events Not To Miss during Riverland’s Mad March

Mad March. The term prompts you to think of the madness associated with the range of events that litter Adelaide’s calendar from the Fringe Festival to Clipsal 500 or Womadelaide to the Adelaide Festival! Well the Riverland is having its own Mad March with a range of ‘not to miss’ events filling the calendar which is fantastic for visitors and locals alike!

March sees the closing of summer and produces some of the best weather for outdoor activities (my favourites usually involve eating and drinking). Lucky for you, there is something for everyone this March in the Riverland, so get your diary, or start tagging mates on Facebook to get your crew together and make sure you don’t miss some great entertainment!

On the 5 March see in the month with Rivafest – 12-7pm on the Renmark riverfront. Rivafest is a Fringe event that showcases local produce and is a great opportunity to sample local fine wines, beer, ciders, sangria and local food products (can’t forget the nibbles). There is live entertainment from local group Riverland Jam Sessions, Trick and Adelaide band Point 05. Local food trucks will also be in attendance to fuel you for a big afternoon of relaxing on the River.

12 March the State Wakeboarding trials come to the Renmark Riverfront and is set to be the biggest state trial of the year! Watch the aquatic acrobatics from the Renmark Club‘s balcony or head to the Renmark lawns to soak up the action!

12 March is the Riverland West Fisherama brought to you by the Ramco Football Club- 8am start at the Ramco Point Apex Park. See if you can nab the major raffle prize which is  a HMF dinghy and trailer. There is also a carp tossing competition on the Ramco Oval, a great family day doing one of Australia’s favourite pastimes!

Brought to you by the Rotary Club of Waikerie, 12 March is the Waikerie Street festival– 5-10:30pm on McCoy Street in the Waikerie CBD. Two stages will showcase local and interstate musical talents and a range of cuisines will make the decision of what to eat for dinner quite difficult! The event promotes local art as well check out the entrants and vote in the Waikerie Art competition at the Rain Moth Gallery. Pssst, Gail Page, contestant on The Voice (2015) will be amongst the talent filling the streets with sweet tunes!

Wow, Waikerie is busy on the 12 March! Sunline Speedway will be lit up with Round 2 of the Robert Gwynne Memorial Track Championship, V6 sprints, Modlites, AMCA’s, Modified Sedans, Super Sedans, V8 Dirt Modified and Classic Formula 500’s. I’m going to have to go along one day just to figure out what all of those are!

The Riverland Speedway in Renmark has two dates in March fuelled for action! Expect adrenalin overload on 13 March with the JD Courier’s Super Sedan Series and “King of the Riverland” to be decided for the V6 Sprints, Modlites, Junior Sedans and a Figure 8 Ramp race to finish the night. Adrenaline doesn’t rest over Easter and 26 March there will be Wingless Sprint trial series, Formula 500’s Club Championship and Modlites! That should satisfy those who have a hard time sitting still and are looking for some blood pumping action!

18, 19, 20 March Renmark Rocks On Renmark riverfront becomes a car lovers paradise with classic vehicle displays. Dust off your dancing shoes and get ready to rock out to live music from Riverland Jam Sessions and local talent and Rock n Roll dance demonstrations. Grab eclectic items at market stalls and keep the kids entertained with the jumping castles and face painting!

25-27 March is of course EASTER! There will be a huge range of entertainment and things to do on the long weekend across the Riverland. Check with your favourite local venues to see what they have planned!

On Easter Saturday, Cadell hosts its annual Cadell Harvest Festival and Murray River Giant Pumpkin Competition! Always wondered what a 400kg pumpkin looked like, here’s your chance to see one!

On Easter Sunday, the Three Wise Women of 919 Wines, Whistling Kite Wines and Bassham Wines come together for tastings at 919 Wines cellar door in Glossop. This will be a great way to try some alternative varieties and meet the passionate locals and learn more about Riverland wines. I strongly feel that Riverland wine is highly underrated!

Camping is a hugely popular past time for Easter and the Riverland has the perfect weather to match your camping adventures. There are plenty of National Parks to camp in with the Murray River National Park providing everything you need from wildlife to waterfront camping.

26 March ‘Fingers’ Mitchell Cullen, a prodigy singer and song writer from Albany WA with an outstanding talent on a 12 string guitar, will be strumming some tunes at Caudo Vineyard‘s cellar door. His show won’t just include awesome finger athleticism on the guitar, Fingers will blow you away by playing the didgeridoo, slide stomp box, harmonica, percussion, and banjo-a one man band. Check out the videos on his website or youtube, he is  an incredibly outstanding and a bright young Australian talent YOU SHOULD NOT MISS!!!

27 March Barmera twilight main street Markets 2-10pm held on Sargent Park in front of Lake Bonney. Many of the regular stallholders and some new stalls and loads of entertainment (including Easter Bunny). After the sun goes down a movie on the big screen will begin. Bring chairs, picnic rugs and the event is fully catered or you can bring your own picnic.

  1. Great share! I am yet to visit Adelaide and it has been on the list for a while. I actually always see sale flights come through on Virgin emails and I really want to buy them. Definitely going to make a list of things to do and add Murray River National Park. Kate, Wondrous x

    1. Thanks Kate! The Riverland is only 2-3 hours from Adelaide, making it the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city! Murray River National Park is gorgeous and is a great way for visitors to experience the River! Hope you can make it to SA soon!
